Anyone remember that crazy Open workout with rounds of 25 Toes to Bar (T2B)? Yeah, that was a lot. Did you lose your T2B in a few sets? Did you have to perform singles the whole workout? Or were you not yet able to reach your toes to the bar? If you would say yes to any of these questions, fear not, as we are going to work on improving this movement throughout April!
This month we are giving special attention to everything required for the T2B. We realize this is a movement that many in the gym struggle with, and we want to devote some time to help everyone improve, regardless of current ability level. Even if you don’t care about T2B specifically, this work will still serve to make your core and shoulders stronger.
Let’s get right into it! How exactly is this going to work? We’ll be dedicating two days a week to T2B specific work. One day will have a core strength piece that will contain movements such as Tuck/V-Ups, Leg Lifts, etc. to work on raw core strength. The other day we will run a T2B skill progression piece. This will have various levels that people will move and progress through based on Their current ability. The first few exercises will be easier, warm up style exercises, But they will get tougher as the levels progress. This will allow us to work on the movement in a low heart rate setting making it easier to practice.
For this reason, we won’t be including T2B in our conditioning/MetCon workouts until we test the movement again at the end of the month. The team workout on April 2nd was a “pre-test” for the movement, and while we won’t repeat that specific workout, the “post-test” will still test your T2B ability. If you were not here that is okay; it’s an unofficial “test,” and you should still be able to assess how much you may have improved based on how the movement feels in workouts.
